Hi! Thanks for considering my trip. My name is Ray. I’m a professor of English Education and I’ve been living and working in beautiful South Korea for more than 7 years. I have a wonderful wife and an adorable 3-year-old son. I look forward to showing you some of the most interesting places in Jeonju(全州)!
Jeonju Traditional Folk Village->Jeondong Catholic Cathedral->Pungnammun Gate->Bibimbap
Jeonju Traditional Folk Village
The Jeonju Traditional Folk village provides a window into ancient Korean life. Showcasing traditional architecture, it is a very scenic place for a stroll. It is also surrounded by shops to buy all manner of old-style crafts and food. On weekends when the weather is nice, there are often free Korean music performances.
Jeondong Catholic Cathedral
Built in 1914, this cathedral is one of the oldest in Korea and is the first example of Romanesque architecture in Honam Province. It was built to commemorate Catholic martyrs who died in that spot during the Joseon Era.
Pungnammun Gate
This impressive structure, originally built in 1768, was one of four such gates around Jeonju and is the only one still standing. It is an interesting example of the architecture of the Joseon Era.
Bibimbap
Jeollabuk-Province (of which Jeonju is the capital) is famous across Korea for its food. Jeonju’s signature dish is bibimbap, rice and vegetables in spicy sauce, usually served in a hot stone bowl. No trip to Jeonju would be complete without trying this mouth-watering dish!
